Four charities in Bristol that could use your support this Christmas

When you think of the festive season, what comes to mind? Overindulging with friends and family on Christmas Day? Hitting the shops in the New Year Sales?

Or do you think of Christmas as a time when your community comes together? Many community organisations and charities in North Bristol could use a helping hand this holiday season.

Whether you’re saving a couple of pounds back for good causes when you hit the sales, or want to volunteer your time, here are some great charities in Bristol and South Gloucestershire who could use your support this festive season.

1. 1625 Independent People

1625 Independent People work tirelessly with young people across the South West who are homeless, leaving care or are at risk of homelessness. This grassroots organisation does incredible work to ensure young people aged 16-25 have not only a safe place to live, but also the practical and emotional support to go on to thrive as independent adults.

If you’re looking to volunteer in Bristol or South Gloucestershire, or to be a mentor, visit the 1625 Independent People website to find out more.

2. BookTrust – Christmas Appeal

BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s literacy charity. This year, BookTrust’s Christmas appeal is asking for donations of just £10 to send a surprise festive book parcel to brighten the Christmas of children who find themselves vulnerable or in care.

If you’re making savings in the sales this Christmas, could you share £10 with BookTrust?

3. Marmalade Trust

The Marmalade Trust is a charity based in Bristol who understand how difficult Christmas can be for someone who is struggling with loneliness. If you believe that no one should spend the festive season alone if they don’t want to, why not join them as a volunteer?

The Marmalade Trust hold regular lunches in pubs and restaurants throughout Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset in the run up to Christmas. And on the day itself, their volunteers do Christmas doorstep visits, delivering festive hampers full of gifts and bringing a bit of Christmas cheer to those in need.

4. North Bristol Foodbank

North Bristol Foodbank - based close to Brabazon in Filton - works to combat poverty and hunger and to support anyone in crisis in the local community.

Whether you can donate time, money or simply a few extra tins from your weekly food shop, North Bristol Foodbank will be hugely grateful for your support as they seek to make a real difference to local people who are struggling this Christmas.
