The Planning Awards category recognises the best use of brownfield land and judges praised Brabazon for a transformation that would have been “unimaginable” when YTL Developments acquired the former Filton Airfield.
This historic local landmark is now being transformed into a thriving new, mixed-use neighbourhood for North Bristol, including up to 6,500 new homes - including over 1,700 affordable properties - alongside student accommodation and homes for later living.

More than 45,000 employees already work in high-skilled roles in the area and the new city district will include over 3-million square feet of commercial space. The community will also benefit from the creation of new schools, the railway station connecting into Bristol Temple Meads, three new MetroBus stops and the 20,000 capacity YTL Arena.
North Bristol is also at the heart of Bristol’s world-class engineering, as the birthplace of Concorde and supersonic travel. The site is steeped in history and the vision for Brabazon is to live up to the legacy of the pioneers who built Concorde and create the space, connectivity and opportunity for the next generation to shape the future once again from North Bristol.

Seb Loyn, Planning and Development Director at YTL Developments said: “We are delighted to win this award and particularly, the category of Best use of Brownfield Land in Placemaking.
“Our vision to create a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol is well underway and this award is wonderful recognition for both our internal team and our partners and consultants.”
