18 New Affordable Homes Support Local Housing Needs in Bristol
YTL Developments has officially handed over the keys to a further 18 new affordable homes at Brabazon to Sovereign Network Group (SNG), reinforcing its commitment to creating a vibrant, inclusive community in North Bristol.
This latest handover forms part of The Heritage District – the second phase of new homes at Brabazon. In total, YTL Developments has now completed 64 affordable homes as it builds a thriving new town on the historic former Filton Airfield in North Bristol.
Senior representatives from YTL Developments, YTL Construction and SNG gathered together to mark the occasion outside these latest new affordable homes, which are located on Smart Street.
The street is named after Ada Smart – a pioneering woman who worked in the wing-making workshop at this former Airfield in the 1940s. All the streets in The Heritage District are named after ‘hidden’ community heroes from the Airfield’s past.

Superior and sustainable design
Designed by award-winning architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and built by YTL Construction, the homes are set along tree-lined streets and combine striking architecture with high-quality materials and thoughtful design. The mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes – arranged over two or three storeys – offer spacious bedrooms, stylish family bathrooms, high-spec Kuch kitchens, and private gardens.
All homes are built to a fabric-first standard, a design approach that prioritises insulation, airtightness and solar orientation to create comfortable, energy-efficient homes that are affordable to heat. Each property is also equipped with sustainable features including solar panels, electric vehicle charging points and Mitsubishi Ecodan air source heat pumps to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption.
The homes will provide secure, high-quality housing for a range of people – including low-income households, first-time buyers and vulnerable individuals – supporting both local communities and regional housing targets.
In total, 1,700 affordable homes are planned as part of the 6,500 homes being delivered across this expanding new town.
Seb Loyn, Planning & Development Director at YTL Developments said: “Brabazon is about building a legacy – not just of beautiful homes, but of opportunity and belonging. These affordable homes are a vital part of that vision, helping to ensure that everyone has access to a place they can call home. We’re proud to be working with SNG to deliver housing that supports both local communities and national priorities.”
Lesley Metcalf, SNG’s Development Delivery Director – West said: “We’re delighted to have taken handover of 18 affordable homes on the current residential construction phase at YTL’s flagship Brabazon development.
“These contemporary homes have been thoughtfully designed with high quality materials and generous landscaping and meet our sector leading Homes and Place Standard. This means new customers can look forward to living in a good home in a thriving community.
Our gratitude to YTL’s site team and aftercare team whose high standards help so much to ensure our customers can settle in quickly and enjoy their new homes.”
Brabazon is already one of the best-connected neighbourhoods in the South West, with excellent public transport links and easy access to major road and rail networks. And with The Hangar – a new local social hub set to open in early 2026, the community continues to grow as a place where people can live, work and play.
